Pumas Mexicans need only apply?
By: Albert | May 19th, 2008It is said to be a medium to long range goal to have Pumas be a Mexican only team, just like Chivas. Pumas currently have only 3 foreigners and 2 nationalized players, so it may not be too hard to do. Their goal is to bring back the essence of the University and use youth players brought up from their lower division teams. Bringing up the youth players would eventually take the place of current foreigners as their contracts end.
Also is mentioned the proposal of lowering the regulation on foreigners to 3 on the field per team at a time instead of 5. This sounds like a good idea, but we have to admit that foreigners do play a big role in Futbol Mexicano. Take Cabañas for instance and his impact with America.

I wish Pumas would take a page from Atlas’ notebook on youth systems. I mean.. it’s already nice but.. why settle for nice .. theres always room for improvement.

Native-only policies are xenophobic. I don’t agree with them and i’m not fond of the teams who use them.

native only policies are not xenophobic! its just a way of giving opportunities to younger Mexican players who most definitely are more enthusiastic and “cheaper” plus it is a way to actually improve the quality of the Mexican national team by having more to choose from.
