Pumas in CONCACAF Champions Cup
By: Albert | June 12th, 2008
The drawing for this CONCACAF tourney has been completed and Pumas gets a Jamaican team.
First-Leg (26-28 August 2008)
Harbour View (Jamaica) vs Pumas (México)
Second-Leg (2-4 September 2008)
Pumas (México) vs Harbour View (Jamaica)
A bunch of unknown teams, such as Joe Public FC, (what a name!) and Puerto Rico Islanders and Tauro (whats your sign?). This should be interesting. I saw an interview with Pumas goalkeeper Sergio Bernal and he said that Pumas will go all out as in every tournament. That Pumas is glad to be in any international tournament, because it is good for Mexican futbol and in their development. Sure, maybe for the youngsters, but why risk injury to key players against teams such as Joe Public FC? Are these really competitive teams? Or are we going to see blow outs like 8-0 or even double digits? If so, this tourney may turn out to be a joke.
Either way, Ill be watching.

In the previous Concacaf Cup incarnations I don’t believe that the Carribean teams (Joe Public is T & T and I believe Jack Warners team, Puerto Rico plays in the US second division but can compete in the carribean tournament and finished third) have beat any teams home and away to advance. DC United had Harbour View this year tied 1-1 in Jamaica and than destroyed them 5-0 at home. I think the W-Connection of T & T (named after a radio station) beat Chivas Guadalajara at home 2 years ago but got eliminated on the return.
In short, these teams might have a surprise in them especially in the carribean but I’d be shocked if even one of them made the group stage. Tauro is a Central American team (I don’t remember from where) and might have better odds.
