Group 1 Standings and Leandro Status
By: Albert | March 19th, 2008It is a very tight race in group 1 with just 4 points separating 1st from last place. Pumas, just 1 point back from Jaguares, cannot afford to give up 3 points like they did last game vs Atlas. Leandro Augusto told the press that it was sad that Pumas lost the game vs Atlas after creating good opportunities, but not finishing.
Group 1 Points
Jaguares 15
Toluca 15
Puebla 14
Pachuca 14
Pumas 14
Tecos 11
Leandro Augusto also stated that he still feels bothered by his ankle but that he is working hard and should be ready for Sundays game against Santos. Leandro has been very important in the midfield for Pumas over the years. Some say he should be called up to the Mexican National Team. Brazilian born, but since Naturalized Mexican has not been called up yet.
I admit to not being a fan of bringing naturalized players, but Leandro is a great one. Maybe I should say, is a good one? It seems he made more of an impact in past seasons, but I think he is still a good calm presence in the Pumas midfield. A feeling of safety is brought when he has the ball in his possession.

He’s not a game changing figure.. but he sure is reliable and such a hard worker. I hope he gets better , soon!

Well the thing I have noticed over a while is that he only seems able to push up enough when he has a contencion he really trusts - he just wasn’t the same for the whole period from Galindo leaving until Tuca finally settled Castro into that role.
I just don’t think he is good enough for International football - shocking I know!
