From one rivalry to another. Pumas gets ready for Sunday’s big game with an 8 goal thriller against Houston Dynamo

By: Rafael | October 1st, 2008

To Pumas fans, there is 2 days they look forward to the most in the whole year. Those 2 days for us Pumas fans are when we face our most hated rivals AMERICA. Lets not get it mixed up with the United States of America. But yesterday night, Pumas played against Houston Dynamo in what was suppose to be one of those classic Mexico vs USA games. Whether the players were concentrated for Sunday’s big game against America or not, yesterday was a heck of a game.

Houston Dynamo went up 2-0, but only to see Dante score a goal and make it 2-1. The ex Barcelona man Juarez netted a scorcher after a deflated free kick and made it 2-2. A penalty followed for Dynamo which then was scored without a problem, only to see Pumas score a goal at the other end from old man Palencia. Pumas took the lead with a Veron goal just at the end of the half. The Paraguayan International took advantage of the bad marking and scored with his head. The CONCACAF referee left his mark like always by not giving a red card for a Dynamo player and a penalty. That didn’t matter though, a total of 7 goals were scored and not even I wasn’t complaining.

In the second half, we expected more of the same. Only one more goal would be scored though and it would be Wabel who would score to equalize and make it 4-4. Pumas went on to dominate the game, but couldn’t get the breakthrough.

It is obvious we can’t beat an inspired America if we play like this with such a bad defense. It is true we scored 4 goals but we also gave up 4. With the Clasico Capitalino just a few days away, the defense needs to start improving. Because like the famous phrase says ” Defense wins championships” and more important than a win against America we have the team to win the league.

You know they’re calling America V.S. Cruz Azul “nuevo clasico” ?!

It’s a crime to call anyone vs America clasico, but this is a true clasico!

Why doesn’t Pumas go back to the uniform they used in the 80’s when Manuel Negrete, Luis Flores, etc. were the stars. I’m tired of the white uniform they should go back to the all-dark-blue uniform with the large golden PUMA head on the chest. Can somebody e-mail this to the president or people in charge of PUMAS so they could change their uniform. I don’t want to see them dressed in white anymore.
